So, I may not be the best person to give this advice because I’ve never ever subscribed to more than two newsletters and never any stores/brands at all.
Here’s an undeniable law of the internet: Clicking links only leads to … More links.
Sure I’d like my 11th cup of coffee to be free. But my daily attention is worth more than that $3 every other month. My motivation to buy retail coffee is strong enough that I don’t need anything else to direct my attention that way.
Same goes for other shopping.
Does knowing about a sale truly help you save money, or does it tempt you to shop when you don’t need anything?
I don’t have any special technique to unsubscribe from email lists. But I am encouraging you to take five minutes, and take an axe (not an ice pick) to any email lists creating clutter.
Sit down and do it. Five minutes of work to make an exponential amount of breathing room. Claim your attention.
What have you got to lose?
— If you subscribe to a newsletter for work then you must schedule time in your work day to read them. Otherwise it’s not work, it’s just junk in your free time.
— Many brands automatically sign you up for emails when you make a purchase so go ahead and unsubscribe immediately on the first one they send. You already got what you wanted anyway.
Happy deleting :)
